Oscar nominated director Deepa Mehta has signed Akshay Kumar to play the lead in her next film, Komagata Maru. There will be other Hollywood actors in the film and Akki will play the lead Gurdit Singh.

Big B was the first choice for the film but he couldnt do it since it is a Canadian Production and their government expects the actors to have a Canadian citizenship. The film is being produced by Hamilton-Mehta Production Inc. in association with Akshay Kumars home production, Hari Om Entertai
